Song Lyrics

Songs that have directly inspired pieces of this blog:

“To Dream the Impossible Dream” from The Man of La Mancha

To dream the impossible dream

To fight the unbeatable foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go

To right the unrightable wrong
To love pure and chaste from afar
To try when your arms are too weary
To reach the unreachable star

This is my quest
To follow that star
No matter how hopeless
No matter how far

To fight for the right
Without question or pause
To be willing to march into Hell
For a heavenly cause

And I know if I’ll only be true
To this glorious quest
That my heart will lie peaceful and calm
When I’m laid to my rest

And the world will be better for this
That one man, scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
To reach the unreachable star

From “Magnificent Obsession” by Steven Curtis Chapman

“…I want this to be my one consuming passion
Everything my heart desires
Lord, I want it all to be for You, Jesus
Be my magnificent obsession

…Cut through these chains that tie me down to so many lesser things
Let all my dreams fall to the ground
Until this one remains.”

“Definition of Me” by Steven Curtis Chapman

“…I’m good, I’m bad, I’m everything in between

I’m this, I’m that, but really God we both know:

It is Your love that defines me
and Your love that reminds me
it’s not what I do
This life I live, You have given
and in You I am hidden
This is what I know is true
that the definition of me is You.”
